Unhooked and Healing
Understanding what hooked you — and finding your way back
What happens when the life you thought you were living turns out to be something very different?
For years, I struggled to make sense of things that didn't make sense. I questioned what had happened, why I felt the way I did, and how a relationship that had begun with so much promise had become something I barely recognized.

It took time, personal reflection, and a great deal of research before I began to understand that what I had experienced was not my imagination. There were recognizable patterns in what I had lived through, and those patterns had a name. I came to understand that I had been married to a narcissist.
But recognizing that was only part of the story. I also began to see how years of living in that relationship had affected my confidence, my independence, my decisions, and the way I understood myself and my life.
Unhooked and Healing shares that journey of discovery, along with what I learned about narcissistic relationships, the patterns that can be difficult to recognize while you're living through them, and why understanding what happened matters.
If you've found yourself questioning a relationship or struggling to understand experiences that never quite made sense, you may recognize something of your own story in these pages.
Understanding the Patterns Behind the Experience
A relationship doesn't always change in ways that are easy to recognize. What begins with excitement, affection, and shared dreams can gradually become a life filled with uncertainty, confusion, and questions you can't seem to answer.
In Unhooked and Healing, I take you through my own experience, from the early days of the relationship to the gradual changes I didn't fully understand at the time.
As my story unfolds, I explore the patterns I later came to recognize: the emotional pull that kept me connected, the manipulation and control I struggled to identify, and the ways I slowly lost confidence in my own judgment.
The book also looks at why recognizing these patterns doesn't necessarily make it easy to leave, why the emotional connection can remain long afterward, and what it takes to begin rebuilding a life that feels like your own again.
Throughout the book, I combine my personal experiences with what I learned through research, offering readers an opportunity to consider whether some of these patterns may help explain what they've experienced in their own relationships.

Finding Your Own Answers
When I began searching for answers, I didn't know what I was looking for. I only knew that something about my experience didn't make sense.
What I discovered changed how I understood my marriage, the choices I had made, and the person I had become.
I wrote Unhooked and Healing to share that understanding with others who may be asking similar questions.
Your experience may be different from mine. But if you've been questioning things that happened in your relationship, this book may help you recognize patterns you hadn't previously understood and begin making sense of your own experience.
